In 2006, Anna Bern pulled a Stuart Little, trading the city for the country. She quit her job as design director at Vogue to open a shop in a small upstate 

New York town. 

In 2006, Anna Bern—previous art director of W and design director of Vogue—took  her style savvy to the Catskills and opened Nest, a lifestyle boutique,  and Nest Inn, a converted 1850s farmhouse lodging. After perusing the  hand-crafted treasures in the store (Moroccan pom pom blankets,  handwoven caftans, and cast brass rings were just a few of the wares  that caught our eye), we’re certain you won’t be going home  

empty-handed.

Created by a former W and Vogue editor who moved to Narrowsburg in 2006,  the boutique, which now has a sister shop in Livingston Manor, offers  hints of mountain charm, like antique snowshoes and Native American  blankets. There’s also batik bedding from India, colorful saris and  leather and woven cotton satchels that resemble a traditional creel — a  portable wicker basket fly-fisherman once used to store their catch.

Along the wooded banks of the Delaware River sits the picturesque hamlet  of Narrowsburg, NY; population: under 500. And tucked inside this  diminutive town, just steps away from gently babbling waters, travelers  can ensconce themselves at Nest Inn, a two bedroom 1850s farmhouse made modern, owned and operated by Anna Bern, a former Design Director at Vogue who gave up the stresses of city life to enjoy the year-round peacefulness of the Catskills.

Anna Bern (who once worked in _Vogue’_s art department) decamped to western Catskills hamlet Narrowsburg and opened up Nest, a boutique filled with alpaca throws and jewelry from her made-in-Indonesia Matahari line.

Meet Anna Bern, my latest object of lifestyle envy. This ex-Vogue and W magazine staffer forsook the urban jungle for Narrowsburg, New York (pop. 414), a  tiny hamlet in the Upper Delaware River Valley, and promptly opened a  home and accessories boutique called Nest.
